Bali

Bali was so fun! I planned this trip for Jordan’s birthday. The flight was a little brutal… but it was fun to be able to go. For me personally, it isn’t somewhere I would go again, but it was AMAZING to go and experience it at least once.

We stayed at 2 differnt airbnbs during our trip.

First airbnb: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/21050954

Second airbnb https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/2166808

A lot of people rent scooters for their stay, it’s like $4 a day. Super cheap. We chose to have a private driver our entire stay. It was $40-$65 a day. It was totally worth it! They know all the great spots, they educate you on the culture, and make sure you don’t get scammed. Bali is so hot, so it was nice to sit in an air conditioned car for a minute before being a tourist again.

Here’s the two drivers we used during our trip, you can contact them via WhatsApp!

The first airbnb we stayed at was closer to the touristy areas of Bali and closer to all the nice food places (what you see in most of the photos on instagram and Pinterest). All the food was pretty healthy and clean which was awesome.

A few of my favorite food places:

-Nude

-Kynd Community

-Gypsy Kitchen and Bar

-Kilo Bali

-Gourmet Canggu

-Milk and Made

-Cafe Organic

-Milu by Nook

We took off to be closer to Ubud after a few days in Canggu. Which I actually loved a lot more! Our second airbnb was right in the middle of some rice fields, it was so amazing. If you want to do any shopping, you want to do it in Ubud. This is where a driver comes in handy….Ubud was kind of separated by villages and each village was known for something. There’s the wood carving village, the art village, the silver and gold village, etc. Definitely check it out! We got an amazing hand carved elephant. They have them marked up a ton, but you can talk them down to really cheap. The handcrafted elephant we got was listed for $375 in US dollars, we got it for $100. Everywhere you go, negotiate! The prices are higher because most tourists will just pay it without blinking an eye. We also bought a painting for $125 that was originally $400. If you like wood dishes and home decor, like cutting boards, bowls, centerpieces, you can get them really cheap in Ubud!

A few different things to check out in Ubud..

-Bali Swing (it’s a tourist trap, but it is pretty fun)  Our driver told us that the Bali swing was cheaper than the Ubud Swing. I can’t remember exactly but I think it was $65 for 2, and you can swing on as many swings as you want for as long as you want. They also had lunch that was included in the ticket price.

-Batuan Temple

-Kuwak Coffee

-Explore the rice fields, we asked the driver for the best spots and he knew exactly where to go!

-Magnolia fields (there’s a few places that just have fields of flowers that the locals cut for their offerings. They are so gorgeous!) Our driver knew all the best places that we wouldn’t of been able to find on our own.

-Waterfalls… there’s so many!! Again ask a local or a driver about which ones to go to. There are always a lot of tourists at these!

-Monkey Forest… guys the monkeys aren’t nice! We saw the monkeys at some of the beaches and temples in Canggu. They are WILD. Not only wild but they have built up a tolerance for humans since being around all of the tourists. Don’t try to touch them, don’t interact with them, just look at them from a safe distance. We saw a lot of people get attacked by the monkeys because they were trying to touch them, so I would not recommend it. Don’t wear any jewelry or have any bags, food, etc. Anything that’s hanging on you, they will try and snag from you.

-Elephant sanctuary, there’s actually a few in Bali. But be careful about which ones you go to, some are tourist traps and aren’t actually sanctuaries (we found out the hard way unfortunately).
